Church donates to hailstorm-hit families

THE Brethren in Christ Central Church has donated an assortment of goods that include household utensils to families in Nkayi district In Matabeleland North Province whose homes were destroyed and livestock killed by a hailstorm recently. 

The hailstorm hit Nkayi, Lusulu area in Binga and Lupane on April 20 leaving a trail of destruction.

Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Sithembiso Nyoni who is also MP for Nkayi thanked the church for complementing Government efforts to assist the affected families.

“The hailstorm hit ward 6 and blew away roofs of many houses and shops.

 

More than 100 homes were affected and victims are accommodated in tents. I would like to thank the Government for its quick response,” said Minister Nyoni. 

The donation comprises clothes, blankets, soap and cooking utensils.

The church collected the donated goods from its members.

Rev Ndabezinhle Nyathi said the church decided to assist the affected families in its small way.

“When we heard about the hailstorm that left a trail of destruction in Nkayi, we called a meeting and asked church members to donate. 

“We have branches in Nkayi but all that has been donated will go to all affected families regardless of which church they belong to,” he said.
