Church fights against child, women abuse

Paidamoyo Bore
Ziva Mwari Congregation (ZMC) leader Richard Twabi said all is set for a campaign against child and women abuse.
The church has come on board to raise awareness on the rampant girl child abuse that has emerged across the nation.

Twabi said it is disturbing that some parents are conniving with perpetrators in concealing girl child abuse.

“As a church we are saddened by lack of morals that has been portrayed by some men in the society.

“Yes, we are beer drinkers but we condone with men who abuse the girl child, stripping them of their dignity.

“Hence as a church we are calling all interested partners and stakeholders to come and join us as we preach against this act,” said Twabi.

The beer drinkers’ church will be hosting an awareness campaign on December 3 at Trojan Mine Stadium in Bindura. Several partners have registered to partner with the church in this fight.

Local churches, hospital staffers, school authorities and the police will grace the occasion where they will also denounce girl child abuse.

The church’s campaign comes as the nation has recently recorded disturbing cases of children under the age of 15 being impregnated.

“It is disturbing that the future is being destroyed whilst we are wide awake.

“On the day, we will be educating, sharing ideas and bringing solutions on how to end the abuse.

“The recent case of a nine-year-old who gave birth is just a tip of what is actually happening in the society, hence we call upon all communities to come on this day,” he said.

Twabi said as a church they believe that the community has much that they can do to end the abuse.

He further acknowledged that it is not only the girl child that is facing abuse as young boys are also facing abuse but end up bottling the issues.

“On the day we will also be enlightening each other and the boys that they should speak out whenever they face abuse.

“We will be encouraging communities to report these issues even it is happening in their societies, they should not wait until it becomes worse,” Twabi added.
