The religious fraternity has taken the fight against drug and substance abuse to a top notch with Johanne Masowe eChishanu yesterday launching a drug and substance rehabilitation initiative to end the scourge.
Apart from giving moral advice, the apostolic sect is also set to construct a rehabilitation centre with vocational training facilities which will accommodate multitudes of drug and substance abuse victims to curb the menace which is now a national threat.
Speaking during the launch of the drug and substance rehabilitation initiative in Harare yesterday, Johanne Masowe eChishanu leader Madzibaba Moses Lloyd Gwasarira said it was the role of the church to help the Government fight the drug and substance national scourge.
“Today we have launched the drug and substance rehabilitation initiative as part of our aim to end the menace. Through this initiative we are going to construct a rehabilitation centre. It will offer vocational training projects as part of the rehabilitation initiative so that when they re-integrate with society, the victims will have something to do,” he said.
Madzibaba Moses said the church will continue to support the Government in its endeavour to end the scourge which is life-threatening.
“It pains us to see our youths indulging in drugs. The President has been clear that we cannot build Zimbabwe or entrust the future of the nation to youths ‘vakasticker’.
“So, we decided that apart from giving spiritual help in the fight against drug and substance abuse, we should also be proactive in coming with rehabilitation centres to cater for the victims,” he said.
Drug and substance issues are a national threat with the Government having set up a national committee on drug and substance abuse.
