Church messenger on $27 000 theft charges

He was remanded in custody to today.

Mr Jeremiah Mutsindikwa for the State indicated that the State was ready to go to trial and two State witnesses who were in court were told to attend court today.

The court heard that on 17 August this year, at about  5pm, the manager at the book centre, Mr Maqhawe Dube, left his office, which had cash amounting to $1 300 in his drawer, $3 500 in a cash box and keys to the vault, which contained $8 000.

The manager gave Moyo the keys to his office and $50 which was meant to buy fuel.

The State is alleging that the following day, Moyo gained entry into the office and allegedly stole $1 300 which was in the drawer and $3 500 which was in the cash box. He also took keys to the vault and stole $8 000.

On 14 September this year, the court heard that the manager left the vault keys in his office drawer and Moyo allegedly had access to the office.

At around 3.30 pm, Mr Ayanda Moyo placed $15 200 in the vault after collecting the keys from the manager’s office.
Moyo allegedly got the keys to the vault from the manager’s office and allegedly stole $15 200.

He was arrested on Thursday and he allegedly led to the recovery of $1 200 and a further $200 was recovered from his wife Mrs Beauty Moyo whom he had allegedly given $1 000.
