Government has commended the church for contributing towards the nation’s food security by complementing its

mechanisation drive.

This follows the hand-over of three tractors from St John’s Apostolic Church to farmers in Mhondoro-Mubaira on Sunday.

Director of Agricultural Engineering and Mechanisation in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural

Development, Mr Clopas Rukuni said Government is on a drive to promote mechanisation.

“We are on a drive to ensure that we promote mechanisation in rural communities and this development feeds into that vision,”

said Mr Rukuni.

Mhondoro-Mubaira legislator, Cde Chamu Chiwanza and farmers in the area also lauded the gesture.

“We have so many idle fields due to labour constraints. With these tractors, we can till as much as possible and meet our

nation’s food security targets,” a local farmer said.

St John Apostolic Church of the Whole World, represented by the advisor in the Bishop’s office, Advocate Charles Maunga, said

the church and the Government should work hand in hand.

“The St John Apostolic Church of the Whole World is joining the Government in ensuring that the country is food secure.

“The three tractors we have handed over to this community are going to complement the ongoing empowerment initiatives

being spearheaded by the Government.

“Vision 2030 needs a common approach where each one of us has a role to play in national development,” he said.
