THE Church is not just a place of worship, but a moral compass for Zimbabwe, where character is moulded, families strengthened and the values of hope, peace, dignity and unity are nurtured, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said.
She said this at the official launch of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe Vineyard Assembly in Knowe on Thursday, Norton and the handover of a 30-seater bus and two vehicles.
“The Church is indeed not separate from the nation. It is the conscience of the nation. This is where character is built, families are strengthened, and the seeds of hope, respect, peace, dignity and unity are planted,” he said.
“The Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe has, over many decades, demonstrated that the Church is not merely a place of worship, but a partner in nation building.
“Through its spiritual guidance, educational initiatives, humanitarian and community outreach, the church continues to make an invaluable contribution to the social and moral prosperity of our nation.”
The sanctuary, built in the Knowe residential area, is a double-storey building and has a seating capacity of 1 000 congregants and is expected to serve the growing AFM community for generations to come
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said churches had a responsibility to complement Government’s efforts towards achieving Vision 2030, particularly through investments in social infrastructure.
She added that churches’ investments in schools, clinics, vocational training centres and other institutions were evidence of their growing contribution to national development.
AFM in Zimbabwe president Bishop Amon Madawo said the Church remained an important institution in promoting peace, moral values and socio-economic development.
He also pledged the church’s continued prayers for the President and the nation.
National chairman of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe, Dr Constantine Murefu, said the church must play a pivotal role in shaping the culture and lifestyles of today’s youth.
