Three men who allegedly broke into a Glad Tidings church in Glen Norah B, Harare, and stole a safe containing US$30 000 appeared in court yesterday.
Their accomplice was remanded in hospital after he was shot by police while fleeing arrest.
Prince Makodza (24), Knowledge Kamucheche (30) and Aldrin Nyadzayo (30) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima facing robbery charges.
Alouis Nyamadzayo is still detained at Harare Hospital.
They were remanded in custody to September 12.
Prosecutor Mr Farai Gatsi alleged that on August 4 this year, the quartet connived with three other suspects still at large to rob the church.
They went to Glad Tidings church and forced their way into the building.
They attacked the security guard, Micklas Vhareta (25), with a metal object and handcuffed him.
The gang proceeded to the senior pastor’s office where they stole a safe containing US$30 000 and documents.
They drove off in a gateway car.
Detectives arrested Makodza on August 28 following a tip-off.
He implicated Nyamadzayo, who was arrested in Glen Norah B.
Kamucheche was arrested at the shopping centre while driving a Mazda B2500.
Nyamadzayo took to his heels when he saw the detectives but was later arrested.
He jumped off a police vehicle and was shot as he attempted to run away.
Kamucheche led detectives to Crowborough where the safe, which only contained church documents, was recovered.
