Sungura king Alick Macheso lost a drum set in an accident over the weekend on his way from Gutu.
His engineer Morgan Mupeta suffered minor injuries and was hospitalised. However, he is said to be in a stable condition.“I thought my right leg was affected but according to the report I got from the doctors in Chiredzi everything is fine,” he said.

Band manager William Tsandukwa confirmed the accident saying they were just fortunate that the other two engineers were not seriously injured while the instruments were not damaged. “Morgan was complaining about his leg but his medical examinations confirm that he was not affected and only the drum set was destroyed,” he said.

Tsandukwa said they were forced to call the other guys who were in Harare to bring another truck and drum set. “We managed to get another truck and the drum set from Harare. Our show at Makute Inn in Gutu went well,” he said.

The Orchestra Mberikwazvo continued with their weekend shows and on Sunday they performed at Pick and Save in Mutare.

Tsandukwa hailed Esau Mupfumi for coming with the idea of family shows in the Eastern Capital.

“There is one thing I released in Mutare people came with their families and it was well organised,” he said.
