Churches Convergence on Conflict and Peace (CCCOP) has joined the world in commemorating and celebrating the International Day of Peace which is celebrated annually on September 21 across the world.
Running under the theme “Recovering Better For An Equitable And Sustainable World” the day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people.
CCOP said churches need to celebrate peace by standing up against acts of hate, online and offline and by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“International Day of Peace reaffirms the fundamental need for peace. Since the establishment of the United Nations and the creation of the UN Charter, Governments are obliged not to use force against others unless they are acting in self-defence or have been authorised by the UN Security Council to do so.
“While we celebrate the International Day of Peace, the CCCOP encourages all countries globally including Zimbabwe to support and maintain peace and resolve contemporary challenges that threaten peace and security.”
CCCOP has also called upon the Government, churches and civil society to take lead in observing the important day highlighting the importance of peace through public awareness-raising activities.
