Churches have rallied behind the National Pledge, saying it promotes Hunhu/Ubuntu in children.
The churches met acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Peter Muzawazi in Harare on Wednesday. Speaking on behalf of the churches, Tehillar Christian Network (TCN) Founder President, Reverend Sam Malunga said it was important to respect our values as a nation.
“The National Pledge promotes respect, Hunhu/Ubuntu, among our children. It teaches children to appreciate our cultural background beginning with God as a nation,” he said.

“Every system or family has its own values, so does Zimbabwe.”
Rev Malunga criticised reports that some churches were against the National Pledge claiming it was unholy.
“The introduction of the National Pledge in primary and secondary schools will go a long way in promoting and inculcating national consciousness and patriotism to learners at a very tender age to cherish their Zimbabwean identity and value their God-given heritage,” he said.
