1 Peter 5:9-10; “Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
Many of us remember the Nepal earthquake that occurred last year. Most of us can recall seeing the horrific images. The sheer devastation was shocking; the loss of life unprecedented.
In one news clip they interviewed the president of Nepal as he toured an affected area, from his facial expressions you could clearly tell that he was a troubled soul who was probably facing one of the worst disasters in his life. He looked helpless, strained and tired.
In another clip they showed images of the international airport where hordes of people where scurrying to leave Nepal. The irony was that despite their desire to leave they could not, there were very few flights going in and out of Nepal at that time.
In moments like these, the world virtually comes to a halt, but the rush of emotions and agony becomes so intense. You realise you are still alive and the beast in front of you is real and not going away.
Sometimes in moments of distress we lose faith in God and His ways, we just can’t understand why bad things happen to good people. We wish that God would provide answers and tell us why this happening.
The answers tend to be distant and far apart, we are caught up in a web where we just cannot comprehend or understand. As I saw the images coming out of Nepal I wondered what was going through the minds of those poor souls.
They looked desperate, hungry and in agonising pain, appealing to the international community to assist whichever way they can.
Whatever challenges you may be facing, be assured that it will soon be a distant memory that will have altered your life forever but will have brought you closer to your calling and the true knowledge of God and His ways.
Say a prayer today for the people of Nepal, say a prayer for yourself and all the people in your life who are going through difficulties that require strength from above to endure.
Be blessed.
