The Zimbabwe Young Christian Founders and Ministers Association (ZYCFMA) has called on politicians to desist from using hate speech and violence but heed President Mnangagwa’s call for peace and unity ahead of the March 26 by-elections.
Speaking at a meeting of 21 representatives from various church denominations in Harare yesterday, ZYCFMA president Mr Lloyd Jarrison said as young church ministers they want the church and Government to lead in uniting the nation and not divide the citizens.
“President Mnangagwa has been stressing the need for peaceful elections. We are against the use of violence and hate speech in these elections and in any aspect of life. We do not want people to live in divided communities but to be one.
“The church has a mandate to play nation building and in that fraternity we want elections that are free of violence and where people do not use hate speech because that is a source of conflict,” said Mr Jarrison.
He urged mutual cooperation between all representative church bodies so that they work with the Government to promote peace.
“We feel if we are going to build Zimbabwe, there is a need for a fellowship and mutual understanding between church and Government. There are many other mother bodies but our desire is to complement them and not to compete with anyone,” he added.
The ZYCFMA also pleaded with the Government to avail land to church groups with capacity so they embark on business projects.
