Cigarette smuggler nabbed with illegal firearm

POLICE in Beitbridge have arrested a 40-year-old man suspected to be part of a cigarettes smuggling racket and recovered an unregistered pistol loaded with eight rounds.

The suspect, Tinei Chaparadza was cornered by detectives at a house in Dulivhadzimu suburb on Tuesday evening while sleeping with the firearm on his waist.

The officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed the arrest yesterday.

He said the Chaparadza has since been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm in violation of the Firearms Act.

Chaparadza was arrested following a tip-off.
