BULAWAYO Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson Watson Madenyika says preparations for the Cimas iGo half-marathon set for Hillside Dams on Saturday, November 26 are well on course.
The event is set to awareness raising on men’s health issues.
“We are excited to be having this event. We encourage athletes to register in their numbers so that we have a big event. This is the second edition of the half-marathon and we hope this event becomes a regular on our athletics calendar,” said Madenyika.
The event seeks to promote health and wellness with emphasis also being placed on mental health issues.
Mental health is a topical matter in the country with a number of suicide issues being recorded in the country, with men also affected.
The registration fee is US$5 for the virtual run and US$10 for the physical run, with the monies payable in local currency as well.
Next year, Bab expects a return of some of its flagship races such as the PPC and Old Mutual. PPC, the giant cement producer, bankrolls the Matopos 33-Miler while Old Mutual sponsors the Nkulumane Half Marathon, which was last held in 2019 before the advent of the coronavirus.
Both races have been running for years now and are regular features on the Bab calendar. — @innocentskizoe
