US-based urban contemporary artist, Cindy Munyavi, is grateful to ExQ and Leonard Mapfumo for the pivotal role they played in her musical journey.

She stated that her debut entrance onto the music scene was with Exq’s song “Staera” featuring Mapfumo.

Having started recording in 2004, Munyavi’s path to success was not without its challenges.

“I started recording in 2004,” she said.

“The first time I was played on the radio was on Power FM.

“My first song to be played on Power FM Zimbabwe was titled ;Staera. I composed and sang the chorus.

“The song belonged to Mr Putiti and featured Cindy Munyavi and Mapfumo.

“I am forever grateful to these twin brothers of mine for that stepping stone, ndaitangira papi nhai?”

Munyavi had high hopes for the track.

She was so sure it would make it to Chamhembe Vol 2.

“I was just a teenager with a dream, Take 5 was our producer. I thought this song would make it to Chamhembe Vol 2,” she wrote on her face Facebook page.

Staera was prominently featured on ExQ’s first album titled ‘Exquisite,’ which included other tracks such as ‘Mazirudo’ and ‘Ndichakutevera.’
