Circus show from Argentina at Theatre in the Park

A circus show from Argentina titled “Mandragora Circus” takes place at Theatre in the Park tonight and tomorrow. The show is a wordless theatre performance where two clowns tell a story of comedy and love in which dialogue is visible without words. Circus stunt, music and unconventional instruments weave the acts of this play where only the gesture allow the audience imagine situations, conflicts and solutions in a delicate story for all the audiences.“Mandragora Circus” is presented by the company Mandragora Circo from Argentina that is on a worldwide tour.

Mandragora Circo started its activity as an independent theatre company in 2002 in Trelew, Chubut, Patagonia Argentina. It was formed by Mariana Silva and Juan Cruz Bracamonte who have been members in other companies performing music, theatre, dance and circus since 1998.

In 2003, the company premièred “Mandragora Circus” a theatre play that combines different kinds of artistic expression to tell a wordless story. Since its première this show has been presented in theatre festivals in Argentina, the Americas, Europe and Africa, performing in 26 countries in more than 13 years of continuous performances.

In 2003, they started to tour Argentina presenting “Mandragora Circus” in theatres and festivals in the Patagonia region and then extended to other parts of the country. In 2005, “Mandrágora Circus” was selected, between 18 plays of all the Patagonia region, to represent the region in the “XX National Festival of Theatre” that is held every year in Argentina by the National Institute of Theatre.

After eight years touring Argentina without interruptions, in 2010 the company started a tour, driving through the Americas from Patagonia, Argentina to Alaska, US.

In 2015 the tours continued for “Mandragora Circus” and it went to several countries.

This year the company continues the tour in Africa with performances around Tunisia and Morocco, where they toured the country participating in several Theatre Festivals.

“Mandragora Circus” arrived in South Africa for the first time in May to present this wordless performance in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and in the Natioanal School´s Festival in Grahamstown.

The tour will continue in Africa in 2016 with shows in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Uganda and more. — TIP.
