City blocks leakages

The City of Harare has repaired five major water leaks that have been causing loss of water at Morton Jaffray Water treatment plant.
Harare residents spent the whole of Saturday without water as the water treatment plant had been temporarily shut down to enable engineers to fix the leaks.
City spokesperson Mr Leslie Gwindi, in a statement yesterday, thanked Harare residents for their patience following the 24-hour shutdown.
“The City of Harare would like to thank all its residents for the patience and understanding shown during the 24-hour shut-down of the Morton Jaffray water treatment plant while we attended to major leaks on the mains.

“Five leaks which were causing loss of water were attended to on the old 1 300mm water mains. Pumping resumed immediately on completion of the repair work,” he said.

Mr Gwindi said they would be another shut-down of the Morton Jaffray treatment plant in two weeks time to repair other leaking pumps.
“The city also notifies its residents that there would be another shut-down of the Morton Jaffray water treatment plant in two weeks time to attend to the new 1 300mm water mains which has leaks as well,” he said.
