The lanky 18-year-old attacking midfielder who plays for Bidvest Wits’ Under-20 team was last year crowned the Most Improved Player. Ngoma, who is in the country on holiday said his ambition was to play for the Young Warriors and subsequently the senior national soccer team.
“It is every player’s dream to represent their country and I also have that dream to don the national team jersey. I believe through hard work and perseverance I will make it into the national team. I am enjoying myself at Wits and even the locals have embraced me into the team. I joined Wits at the beginning of 2011 after responding to an advert inviting players for trials and since then, I have never looked back. When our season ended last year, the coach said some of the players in our squad will be afforded an opportunity to train with the senior team and I hope to be one of those players,” said Ngoma.
If he makes it into the senior team, Ngoma will rub shoulders with Zimbabwe internationals Tinashe Nengomasha and defender Thomas Sweswe.
Castle Lager 2012 Soccer Star of the Year Denver Mukamba is also said to be on his way to Wits.
Ngoma, a Gwabalanda-born star finished his O’ Levels at Gifford High School in 2010 and is ready to fight for first team action.
“Competition up there is tough but I am ready to fight for a position if given the opportunity. I am happy that I won the Most Improved Player accolade in my second season at Wits and want to win more things with the club. I hope my countrymen in the senior team (Nengomasha and Sweswe) will welcome me when I go there for training,” he said.
Ngoma once turned out for the now defunct AmaZulu and Highlanders’ juniors before having a short stint with FC Windermere.
Bantu Rovers and national Under-20 Moyo twins Elvis and Kelvin were his seniors at AmaZulu. In 2010 he turned out for Zim Leopards alongside Hwange’s most sought after striker Francisco Zvikumbawire.
Ngoma who can play behind strikers or as a winger is not related to FC Platinum’s striker Donald.
An official from Zim Leopards, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the sky is the limit for the lanky midfielder.
“Look, the boy has the right body of an athlete and was one of our most prized players. He left us at the beginning of 2011 and then we had registered him for that season. As a club we are happy to see Arthur (Ngoma) making the grade at Wits and wish him the best.
“My advice to junior national team scouts is that they should monitor these players because they are the future of our senior national team” said the official.
Arthur is the son of former Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association official Dan Ngoma who played for Eagles in the 1980s.
