City businessman Mguni dies

He was 60.

Mr Mguni, who ran his business under the Madlala Tours and Lodges brand, died at his home in Paddonhurst yesterday morning.

Mguni was popular for the role he played in a radio drama series entitled Sakhelene Zinini where he played a con artist.

He played the role of Fanyana alongside Zifa vice-president Ndumiso Gumede, who played the role of Sibhumbuluzi.

Yesterday scores of mourners gathered at Number 45 Abbot Street in Paddonhurst to bid farewell to a man whose life touched many in the city.

Mr Mguni’s widow, Mrs Lois Mguni described her husband as a man of the people.

She said Mr Mguni was diagnosed of cancer of the liver in April and was always in and out of hospital since then.

“He has been ill since April when he was diagnosed of cancer of the liver. He was in and out of hospital from that time and never fully recovered,” said an emotional Mrs Mguni.

She said her husband was an energetic man and a pillar of strength and his death had left the family at a loss.

“We are in pain as a family as we have lost a pillar of strength. Agrippa had been ill for about three months but he had given us hope that he was getting well,” said Mrs Mguni.

Mr Mguni was born on 11 March 1952 in Gwanda District’s Mawaza area.

He did his primary education at Mawaza before going to Luveve High School in Bulawayo where he completed his Ordinary Level.

Mr Mguni held degrees in education and business management.

Mguni ran a fleet of commuter omnibuses in the city and a lodge in Richmond.
