HARARE City Council has installed solar systems at the Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital (BRIDH) and most of the capital’s satellite clinics.
This will see the City saving, at least, 60 percent, in energy bills.
The City is working in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.
Department of Works electrical plant section superintendent, Smile Mutiniwa, said the City was going green and most of the retrofitting at Wilkins Hospital, and Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital, had been done.
“We have been doing a 40KW solar system, at the Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital, which is due to be commissioned very soon,” he said.
“Work at our Poly Clinics are 80 percent complete.
“And, 11 of the 12 clinics have been installed with retrofit lights, while retrofitting at Mabvuku Poly Clinic is still underway.”
Mutiniwa said the City is also set to commission two new heavy duty laundry machines and two dryers at BRIDH.
Laundry from all poly clinics and Wilkins hospital is done at BRIDH.
