A HARARE man has lost over US$15 000 in a botched car deal.

Owen Simbarashe Matemai (30), who is being accused of orchestrating the fraudulent act, appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

He was remanded in custody pending his bail ruling today.

Allegations are that Matemai met the complainant in Harare and he told him whe wanted to buy two Toyota Vitz and two Toyota Aqua vehicles from Japan.

The complainant asked Matemai to help him buy the vehicles since he once dealt with him in 2020.

Matemai told the complainant that he could import the four vehicles at a price of US$12 398.

The complainant gave Matemai the US$12 398 and he promised to deliver the vehicles after November 20.

Sometime last month, Matemai informed the complainant that the vehicles were ready for collection in Tanzania and charged him US$3 000.

He promised to deliver the vehicles after two weeks.

At the end of the two-week period, the complainant made a follow-up, and Matemai became evasive and blocked the complainant.

The complaint reported the matter to the police and Matemai was arrested.
