CITY MOTORISTS GIVE THEIR SEAL OF APPROVAL

HARARE motorists have given their seal of approval following the reopening to traffic of a section of Nemakonde Way (formerly Lomagundi Road), which was under construction.

The closure of the road had resulted in traffic diversions, leading to congestion on smaller suburban roads, such as Perth Road.

“This road is key to smooth traffic flow. I am sure you would have seen from the congestion that followed its closure,” a motorist, identified as Andrew Khosa, said.

Another motorist said:

“Traffic congestion had become the order of the day on many roads as motorists sought to navigate their way out of town.

“Today (yesterday) has been generally fine as motorists had many options following the reopening.

“I hope the congestion of recent days is over while I also pray that the Government expedites the widening of roads and construction of flyovers to effectively deal with congestion.”

Nancy Madzivanzira, of Westgate, said:

“It is refreshing to have this intersection reopened to traffic. I was dreading getting into town in the mornings and evenings.

“I thank the Government for the construction works done at this intersection.

“It shows that the Second Republic, led by President Mnangagwa, is living true to its promise of transforming infrastructure in the country.

“We want to see more of these developments, especially the dualisation of roads so that we reduce congestion.”

Zambian truck driver and cross-border commuter Martin Choto expressed his relief, saying this refurbishment is a lifeline for us.

“The road was in a dilapidated state, making our journeys challenging. Now, with the rehabilitation, it will not only enhance our daily business but also significantly reduce the frequency of accidents,” Choto said.

Grace Moyo, a resident along the Nemakonde Way, applauded the government’s foresight, saying, “We’ve endured the hardships of a crumbling road for far too long.

“This refurbishment is a breath of fresh air, and we are grateful that the government is addressing the infrastructure needs that directly impact our daily lives,” she said.

“The government’s commitment to improving our roads is commendable.

“The completion of this project will not only make our daily commute safer but will also boost our confidence in the administration’s dedication to enhancing our living standards.”
