City moves to update audits

CITY of Harare Audit Committee chairperson Councillor Jubilation Shoko said they are sitting tomorrow as a committee to consider 2021 financial statements after the outgoing auditor submitted the draft report for 2021.

Speaking at the 1935th Ordinary Council meeting at Townhouse today, Clr Shoko said the incoming auditor has promised the committee that if they get all the information that they need, they will immediately move to do 2022, 2023 audits concurrently.

“And they have actually requested to also do 2024 concurrently. So we are meeting tomorrow to finalise the issue around 2021 audits. And the incoming auditor will be on the ground.”

Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume said his desire was for the city to be up to date with its audits.

“So my desire in that meeting is that it comes up with clear timeframes so that this side of the year, we are able to say we are current on our audits. So I think that’s should your major preoccupation.”

Ward 16 Clr Denford Ngadziore asked why the city does not have updated audited statements.

“There are several issues emanating from finance which include, if you remember the last time, we alluded to the fact that our trial balances were not in place,” said Cllr Shoko.

“And those were the issues raised in the reports that were supposed to be considered tomorrow (Wednesday).

“So there are a lot of issues that were highlighted by the auditors that we need to address from our finance department so those are the issues that we are considering tomorrow.”
