THE City of Harare and its partner Helcraw Water Private limited have embarked on a massive rehabilitation of Morton Jaffray Waterworks to improve water production and delivery to residents.

In a statement, City of Harare spokesperson, Mr Stanley Gama, said currently the plant is producing an average of 300 megalitres a day, but with the coming in of Helcraw, production is expected to rise to about 520 megalitres a day on completion of the works currently underway.

“The City of Harare and Helcraw have so far installed in excess of 40 000 smart water meters in the city and for this year, the target is 100 000,” read the statement.

The statement indicated that the council has been losing water through leaks caused by old water pipes.

“But through its partnership with Helcraw, the city is replacing the old pipes. The rehabilitation of Morton Jaffray, the replacement of old pipes and the installation of smart water meters will certainly go a long way in alleviating water challenges faced in some parts of Harare,” read the statement.
