City runs out of land

housing co-operatives when they are aware of the land shortages. In some cases, those co-operatives allocated land have failed to construct houses within the stipulated periods. The city’s committee on education, health, licensing, housing and community services discussed the matter last month. A report by the housing and community services director Mr Justin Chivavaya was tabled for the committee’s consideration.
Councillors forming the committee requested for more time to consult on the implication of the recommendation. The full council that met recently agreed to defer discussion on the matter until wider consultations were made. On its part, Government has repossessed the 84-hectare piece of land allocated to housing co-operatives in Harare North (Hatcliffe) to protect the interests of the public.
Beneficiaries have been asked to stop paying monthly subscriptions to the leadership of the housing co-operatives until a Government investigation team chaired by Harare Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Amos Midzi completes investigations.
