HARARE City’s push for promotion has taken a knock after back-to-back defeats in the Northern Region Soccer League left them dropping six points.
The Sunshine Boys lost to Marere and Ngezi Stars Under-19 and coach Try Ncube admitted the recent dip in form has been disappointing.
“The dip in form is unacceptable, considering we see ourselves as title contenders. We lost six points in two matches, and that reflects our current status. It is totally not acceptable for us,” he said.
City had looked solid in the opening stages of the campaign, but defensive problems have started to show in recent matches.
“In the previous games, I think our biggest letdown is that we have been porous. We conceded three goals in two games, but before that we had conceded just twice in 10 games.
“That highlights where we need to work on, but it is a whole team effort from defence and midfield to attack.”
Despite the setback, Ncube believes the race is still open.
“We still have a lot of games to play, and we remain focused on the ultimate goal. It’s a marathon. A slip-up should see us rise again, dust ourselves off and fight again.
“We are not putting ourselves under pressure. As you can see, those above us dropped points as well, so it gives us an opportunity to bounce back.”
Black Rhinos moved above Harare City after drawing against CP Chemicals and are on 19 points alongside Chingwere.
Harare City have 18 points, while Golden Eagles and G&T Mine sit a point behind on 17.
Ngezi Stars Under-19 remain top on 20 points despite their 1-0 defeat to Golden Eagles.
