IT appears scores of touts are in defiant mode and resisting the order to vacate the streets, which has been made by the police.

A survey by H-Metro showed that a number of touts were on the streets of Harare, especially along Leopold Takawira Street, Robert Mugabe Road and Julius Nyerere Way.

Scores of touts have been arrested in the capital in the past few days.

One of the touts told H-Metro that they will continue to roam the streets since it is their only source of income.

Wangu panemupurisa ndipo pane mari saka hatibve paroad zvekumhanya.

Hatirase tsvimbo nekuti gudo rabata kumeso, vamwe vedu ava tinodya tese paroad ipapo.”

In a bid to restore order and ensure the safety of travellers, police launched a nationwide operation dubbed, “No To Touts”.

The crackdown has resulted in the arrest of 410 touts, who were taken to court on Thursday.

According to a police statement, the operation will target the gangs which harass and force travellers to board public service vehicles and pirate taxis.

No deposit fines will be accepted at police stations.
