Civil servants applaud Government

CIVIL servants have applauded Government’s decision to pay them bonuses on time and said the move enables them to plan for the festive season.

Government started paying its workers bonuses early last week.

Recently, Government announced that civil servants would be paid 100 percent of their annual bonus in foreign currency but payment would be spread over this and next month.

In an interview with Chronicle, Mr Enias Dube, a teacher who was buying groceries at a supermarket in the city centre was cheerful after receiving his bonus early.

He said it is a great pleasure that after years of struggling, the listening Government of President Mnangagwa has heard their cries and responded to them positively.

“The Government has turned our cries into tears of joy. A bright festive season is on the horizon for all of us as civil servants,” he said.

In the same supermarket, there was Mrs Irene Siziba who was doing her groceries. She said she is so happy that Government remembered them and gave them bonuses that brighten their festive season.

“This year is a different year for us civil servants because we have been provided with bonuses that are worth allowing us to plan for our families since the festive season is soon approaching. I believe things will be different this year,” said Mrs Siziba who is also a teacher.

At another supermarket a man who identified himself only as Mr Nyoni who was also doing groceries after receiving his bonus commended Government for the payment.

“This year our Government has made us shine as civil servants. It has managed to grant us a bonus early that makes us plan for our festive season in time with the budget that is at hand.

I am here today shopping groceries for my family and I have made it a point to buy what they have never had so that I can spoil them at this time of the year since the Government has remembered us with amounts of money that can enable us to cater for wants and needs of our homes,” he said. – @NomqheleC
