GOVERNMENT has offered civil servants serviced land in Masvingo province as part of the ongoing residential stands scheme for its workers.
The stands were serviced by the Infrastructure Development Bank (IDBZ) at a cost of $7 million.
Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa yesterday met civil servants’ representatives in Harare to discuss the offer and invite them for a tour of the stands in Masvingo.
Apex Council president Mrs Cecilia Alexander yesterday confirmed the meeting, saying they had accepted the offer.
“Minister Chinamasa called us for a meeting to discuss the IDBZ housing scheme which is on offer for civil servants.
“He requested the unions to educate their members on the scheme. Civil servants who are interested in buying the stands will take up the houses voluntarily and they will not be linked in any way to bonuses and salaries.
As the Apex Council leadership we have agreed to take the offer and make efforts to synchronise the project with the existing housing scheme availed by the Government,” said Mrs Alexander.
She said the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development will fund a trip by Apex Council leadership to visit the IDBZ housing scheme soon.
“The visit will give us a better picture of the project. We’ll then give our members all the information they need and all the parties involved will discuss how to execute the programme,” said Mrs Alexander.
