FUN-LOVERS should be on cloud nine as October continues to dish out high-profile events with class and taste.
Not only is the 10th month on the showbiz calendar fun-filled, but the variety and value for money it offers have made it worthwhile.
Events planners have gone full circle to ensure they meet fans’ demands with different tastes in various fields like music, film, theatre, fashion, and performance arts.
Below are some of the events to expect this weekend as we approach mid-month:
Spirit of Praise Volume 10 hits Zimbabwe
Gospel lovers in Harare and its environs have been afforded another day of worshipping the Lord with stars at the Harare International Conference Centre tomorrow and Sunday in Bulawayo at Harvest House International Conference Centre.
All the eyes would be on Spirit of Praise Volume 10 Concert parading a galaxy of both local and regional stars.
South African gospel supremo, Benjamin Dube, with his members who include Dumi Mkokstad, Omega, Mmatema, Mpumi Mtsweni, Takie Ndou, Sindi Ntombela, Canaan Nyathi, and Everton Mlalazi.
Guest performances will be United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean songstress Eleana Makombe, The Unveiled, Harvest Music, and Vocal X.
After the Harare leg, the same line-up heads to Bulawayo for another show night of praise and worship at Harvest House International Conference Centre on Sunday.
Saintfloew, Kwesta’s ‘bromance’ under the spotlight
Rap sensation, Saintfloew, will spend the weekend partying alongside his South African counterpart, Kwesta.
Born Zenzo Mfundo Vilakazi, the 36-year-old is set to spice up Saintfloew’s album launch for Alexandra Sports Club in Harare tomorrow.
His second album launch is set to attract an array of youthful musicians trending in Zimbabwe.
Voltz JT, Michael Magz, Tamy Moyo, Nisha Ts, Silent Killer, Master H, and the Chillspot Family clique of DJ Fantan, Levels, and Ribhe have been included in the line-up.
Special guests comprising Hatiperi Wacho, Blot, MC Gully, Ma9ne, MC Tatts, Ninety_6, Chief Ben, Pretty Gangsta, and King Her, will also grace the event.
Last year, Saintfloew launched his debut titled ‘Rise & Lead’ at the same venue, attracting a big crowd despite the event clashing with the 2023 Jacaranda Music Festival held at Old Hararians Sports Club.
It is now clear that Alex Sports Club has become his favourite hunting ground.
Film Enthusiasts’ big weekend
Mbare Art Space, which is famed for promoting visual artists, will host this year’s European Film Festival Zimbabwe throughout the weekend.
Today, the National Film Policy round-table will take centre stage from midday to 2pm.
Several short films, features, and documentaries will be shown at the event.
The opening day will set the tone for what fans can brace for at this film fete, which is set to put Mbare on the global map.
Tomorrow, a film from Bioskop Zimbabwe will be shown at the Main Arena.
Before the screening, the Bioskop Zimbabwe Short Film Awards will be presented to the winners.
On Sunday, a story-telling session will be held around midday while the Mbare Jazz Jam Session is set to add variety to the festival.
Mbare, which is known for producing jazz outfits like Mbare Trio, Pied Pipers, and individuals like the late Tobias Ariketa and Simangaliso Thuthani is no doubt a nursery of Zimbabwean art.
In the afternoon, Bioskop Zimbabwe Short Film will also screen more feature more productions at the Art Lab.
Macheso invades Marondera, Mozambique
Alick Macheso is a busy man whose stuff is in demand!
Tonight, he performs in Marondera at Chipiwa Gardens where he will be backed by Peter Moyo and resident wheel-spinners DJ M-Squared MC Codro.
This show is a bit special for Macheso as he remembers his friend Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo who succumbed to cancer on October 15, 2011.
Macheso and his peers will be celebrating his late friend along with Peter Moyo, Dhewa’s son.
“I will always miss Dhewa because he was a good friend of mine that I worked with over the years. We created good memories together and fans will always remember us for taking sungura to another level.
“I always wish him the best where he is at the moment,” said Macheso at a recent show in Harare.
After the Marondera show, Macheso travels to Mozambique for another show at Motor Cross Sports Club in Manica province on Saturday.
Mental health play gives Harareans variety
Theatre lovers in Harare will refresh their minds by thronging to Jason Mphepo Little Theatre, where a mental health play titled ‘Haywire’ opened yesterday.
The play, which runs until October 19, is part of the global commemorations of the International Day of Mental Health, courtesy of Chenura Trust.
It was created and is performed by Chipo Chikara-Nyoni and Tafadzwa Bob Mutumbi.
This year’s commemorations are being held under the theme “Mental Health at Work.”
