Clerk escapes jail term

This resulted in the arrears  accruing to US$715 which were meant for the upkeep of his three minor children.
Patrick Chiripanyanga of Zengeza 2 in Chitungwiza was in November last year ordered to pay US$300 for maintenance and US$115 school fees for his three minor children by a Chitungwiza magistrate.

He only paid US$600 for the first two months and failed to honour the court order from January to March this year.
This led to his arrest and subsequent appearance in court before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo for contravening Section 23 of the Maintenance Act.
He told the court that he had not been receiving his salary for the past five months and as a result could not meet the court’s demands.
