What was supposed to be one of those sweet and profitable moments turned sour for a Bulawayo commercial sex worker who was allegedly assaulted and gang raped by her clients who did not want to pay for her services.
Residents of a Bulawayo suburb were jolted from their slumber as they heard the woman moaning in anguish after her client teamed up with friends, ran riot, assaulted and gang raped her.
According to some residents who woke up to the call in the wee hours of the morning, the lady who could barely speak was lying in a pool of blood with her clothes covered with blood all over.
a?It was around 12 midnight when we heard noise outside. It was a fracas coming from the nearby beer garden. A woman was scolding men with shocking insults. We could hear her asking for her money,a? said one of the residents.
a?The noise went on for a very long time. These people were near our gate. I fell asleep only to be awakened by the moaning woman the next day. Wayegcwele igazi engakhangeleki (she was full of blood). She lay indecently with no under garments,a? she said.
A vendor who usually drinks at the beer garden said there was a fall out between the thigh vendor and her clients over money.
a?I was delivering my last stock of my vegetables back home when the lady of the night quarrelled with her client who didnat want to pay. Prior to the melee, I saw the two leaving together.
a?From what I picked from the conversation the client had promised to get the $5 from a friend when they came back as he claimed that he had a $50 note,a? he said.
All hell broke loose when the friend turned out to be moneyless. The cheeky lady faced the wrath of a monstrous client.
The chairman of the residentsa association Titus Mxotshwa confirmed the incident.
a?I received the report but it was not pure rape. They were from a drinking spree with the lady and they did not pay each other the service fee. Thatas where the fracas emanated. They were also afraid of reporting the matter because they had a deal earlier,a? the chairman said.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said they had not received the report.
a?I havenat received such a report,a? she said.
