ENVIRONMENT, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, said climate change has been having a negative impact in the region.
Tropical storm Freddy has been causing havoc and taking lives and destroying property in this part of the world.
In a speech read on his behalf at the Zimbabwe Climate Change Adaptation Indaba, Minister Ndhlovu said Cyclone Freddy pummelled Mozambique, Malawi and Madagascar with devastation.
Zimbabwe should take concrete measures on climate action.
“Zimbabwe is largely dependent on natural resources and as we face a climate crisis, we as a nation must act.
“This conference must give concrete direction on climate action and available funding opportunities.
“Let me pre-empt that the next climate conference must be centred on ‘What are we doing about it, what are the measurables’,”
He added: “As a country transforming the agriculture sector, building resilience will not be possible without significantly increasing the amount of capital for climate-smart investments in agriculture.
“Climate-smart agriculture investments provide financial, community and environmental returns over both short-term and long-term horizons and deliver a long-term positive impact,” he said.
