Film lovers are in for a treat as a new fascinating and educative play called “An Act of Man” has started screening at Theatre in The Park.
The play, whose main character is Bulawayo-based actor Zenzo Nyathi, will be screening in the evenings until this Saturday.
The play is centred on the trending global issue of climate change.
In an interview, Rooftop Promotions programmes coordinator Passmore Ndlovu urged climate film fanatics not to miss the play.
“What is exciting is that the play discusses climate change, a subject that is rarely talked about by ordinary members of the community,” he said. “I am also urging all climate change players both institutions and individuals including members of the media to participate.”
The play was directed by Memory Kumbota.
In the play, a rain diviner is forced to look not only to past traditions, but also to the future to try to come to terms with his own personal misfortunes and the natural disasters of droughts and floods.
Told through a zestful mix of storytelling, mime, dance and song, the one-hander play adventurously interrogates the role that traditional knowledge systems and science play in a fast-changing world and in climate change intervention.
Nyathi is a graduate of Amakhosi Performing Arts based in Bulawayo. He has featured in numerous performances in the past two decades.
He has directed Climate Smart Agriculture Theatre for Policy Advocacy pieces at both national and regional levels.
Nyathi is a Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) champion trained in Climate Change Leadership and Policy Advocacy.
Theatre in The Park has had quite a number of theatre plays addressing environmental issues including climate change and some of them include “Mwana Wa…” which was written by Special Matarirano, produced and directed by Daves Guzha in 2021 and is on artisanal mining.
