Clock under repair

ST MARY’S Anglican Church Cathedral clock, which has not been working for some years, is now being repaired. Reverend Farai Mutamiri yesterday confirmed the development but said they are having challenges in finding parts which are needed to repair it.Some workers from nearby office buildings and other passers-by could be seen jubilating as they watched the clock’s ticking hands.

“This used to be a reliable time teller for some of us without watches or too bothered to check the time on cell phones,” said a passerby who declined to be identified.

Rev Mutamiri said they were battling to find the required spare parts but said work was in progress to carry out the repairs.
“We have been trying to fix it but some of the parts needed for the completion of the job seem not available,” he said.

He said the clock could function for at least 24 hours before stopping. Anglican Harare Church of the Province of Central Africa spokesperson Mr Precious Shumba said the clock ceased to work during the time Dr Nolbert Kunonga won control of the properties.

“When we were dispossessed of our properties the clock was in good working order but it ceased during Kunonga’s (Dr) reign and he did not care to repair it just like the church’s other infrastructure which is now dilapidated.”
