TWO bouncers from Club 263 in Bulawayo, allegedly handcuffed a patron and assaulted him with a sjambok and fists before stealing his money and cellphones.
Michael Damien Scott (47) and Matthew Cooper Mutenda (20) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Sheunesu Matova last week facing charges of assault and theft.
Mr Matova granted the duo a bail of $50 each and remanded the case to tomorrow for trial. Presenting the case for the State, Mr Charles Danda said Scott, Mutenda and their accomplices still at large, on 16 March assaulted Mr Vincent Sithole.
One of the assailants, who is still at large is said to have handcuffed Mr Sithole, after accusing him of stealing a cellphone.
That is when Scott and Mutenda dragged him to a back room at the bar, where they assaulted him before he fell to the ground.
Mr Danda told the court that Scott and Mutenda stepped on his neck and beat him with a sjambok and kicked him all over the body. They are also accused of searching and stealing $20 and two cellphones valued at $100 and $50 from Mr Sithole.
After the assault, Mr Sithole reported the matter to the police, before seeking treatment, where he was admitted in hospital for a few days.
After being discharged, Mr Sithole with the aid of police officers identified the duo, leading to their arrest on 7 April.
