THE third instalment of Mashoko Tapes proved to be a standout moment at the Shoko Festival’s Mash Up Night, showcasing the project’s range and creative depth.
Rather than sticking to a single sound or style, Volume 3 moved fluidly between Ndebele, Shona and English, incorporating different genres, tempos and moods to highlight the versatility of the artistes and producers behind the project.
The performances by Bhila, Supermuno, Millz Million, Easy Ice, Luigi Badgenna and Hooksmith resonated with festival-goers, reinforcing Mashoko Tapes’ growing reputation as a platform unafraid to experiment while still delivering a cohesive and engaging experience.
Mashoko Tapes Volume 3 is an innovative music residency programme that brings together performers from the festival’s Mash Up Night in a collaborative environment to produce an original album, fostering artistic growth among Zimbabwe’s hip-hop and urban artistes.
