Zimbabwe National Army boxing team coach Steven Masiyambumbi has expressed confidence in his boxers who are set to compete in the Zimbabwe Amateur Boxing Association championships at Chivhu Hall in Chivhu this weekend.
The ZNA are the defending champions and Masiyambumbi said they will be out to defend their title when they meet with the other 10 provinces on Saturday.
“The team is well prepared, we started preparations two months ago for this tournament. We are the defending champions and I think we are going to do more than what we did last year. We had several defending champions (in various weight divisions) but we did not have some of our senior guys.
“All the guys are prepared and ready to go. They would want to make it into the national team as the tournament will be used as a selection event. We have also recruited new fighters from within our organisation to compete in this event.
“We are going to field 11 male boxers for all the categories and three female boxers,” said Masiyambumbi.
Some of the ZNA boxers expected to compete are Beaven Nyamhondera (lightweight), Ndodana Moyo (light-welterweight), Sandra Magura (featherweight) and Netsai Bondai (bantamweight). — Sports Reporter.
