NAIROBI. – Visa, the financial services company, is upbeat at its prospects in Kenya.
The new general manger for the company in Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Kamran Siddiqi, who is touring Kenya, said the East African country remains an important market to the company.
Business is high in Kenya, he says, and they are looking at ways of solidifying their presence there.
He added that he was excited to be in the country and support the progress Visa had made, especially in driving financial inclusion and enabling electronic payments.
“With taking great strides towards the digital migration, innovative products are being rolled out right now through global technology such as Visa Personal Payments to enable the Diaspora to send money home to Kenya more cheaply and safely,” said Siddiqi.
He added that the company wanted to make partners, banks and the local government aware of the services and update them on their progress.
This kind of partnesrship, he says, will help them be aware of the needs of their partners.
He said Visa remained a key catalyst for Kenya’s economic growth and prosperity.
Visa country manager for Southern and East Africa Jabu Basopo concurred.
“Visa is driving other innovations that were making payments easier and more inclusive such as the Mobile Point of Sale devices that Visa is developing with technology partners,” he said.
Siddiqi added that Visa aimed to establish an important initiative that would support the government’s mandate of migrating all cards from magnetic stripe to chip and PIN by end of March next year.
Visa recently collaborated with the East African Tourism Platform in bid to boost tourism in the region.
Siddiqi added that the company would ensure that it offered a familiar and easy payment platform that would support the growth of tourism in the entire region. – CAJ News.
