Coca-Cola has unveiled the 2014 World Cup anthem titled “The World is Ours” by Brazilian-born artiste David Correy which also features Brazilian percussion band Monobloco.
The anthem, written by Rock Mafia and produced by Mario Caldato Jnr, brings the music of Brazil to the world and captures different rhythms of samba, baile funk and technobraga. It is the cultural mix which captures the inclusive spirit of the “World Cup” campaign and shares the energy, passion and rhythms of the host nation, Brazil.
The song will be the anthem for the World Cup Trophy Tour, which is similar to the Olympic torch run.
David Correy was selected as the voice of Coca-Cola for the 2014 games. As the newly announced ambassador to the Coca-Cola Fifa World Cup 2014 campaign, he has started the journey to become a global icon.
Correy is no ordinary star-in-the-making. He is an inspirational artiste who has experienced the highs and lows of life which he channels it all into his music.
“We always try to bring to light our campaign ideas through music and in 2014 we’re talking about the world Cup and bringing the world together.
“That is what the song was meant to do from a lyric perspective.
“From a music perspective, we wanted the music to stay very authentic to Brazil, but in an original way that would resonate with an audience internationally . . . we’re taking that rhythm of Brazil and pairing it with just a great mainstream song,” Joe Belliotti, director of Global Entertainment Marketing at Coca-Cola, said.
He opens the 2:38 minute track with a call to “Kick it to the world”.
“I think with the rhythms, the song, the message, it’s going to touch a lot of people,” he said.
Correy emerged on the US music scene in 2012, when he competed on “The X-Factor”. His performance resulted in a reunion with his birth mother, who was forced to give David up for adoption due to extreme poverty.
