A SEURITY guard, who was manning Chitubu Council Bar in Glen Norah, was murdered in cold blood in a foiled break-in into the complex.

The guard fought back when his suspected murderers, Gilbert Mukochomori and Talent Shamva, broke into the bar he was guarding on December 7 last year.

The duo had been on the run since they allegedly committed the offence.

They have since been arrested and appeared in court yesterday.

The brief circumstances are that on December 7, at around 3am, the duo and their accomplice, who is still at large, connived to break in and steal from the bar.

They were allegedly armed with knives.

But,  as soon as they entered, they were confronted by the security guard  and an altercation ensued.

One of them stabbed him once in the back and twice on the head and they ran away before they could steal anything.

The guard screamed for help and started vomiting blood.

He was assisted by one, Natashe Martin Phiri, who was sleeping at the front of the beer hall.

Phiri secured transport to ferry the guard to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The duo was arrested on January 8, after a tip-off was made to the police.

The two appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded them in custody pending finalisation of investigations.

Thomas Chanakira prosecuted.
