College students jailed for stealing meat

Masvingo Bureau
Two Masvingo Polytechnic students have been jailed for stealing 10 kilogrammes of cooked meat from the institution’s kitchen. Naume Alfos and Cosama Zengeri (ages not given) were on Friday ordered to pay a fine of $20 each or alternatively spend five days behind bars after Masvingo provincial magistrate Mr Langton Ndokera convicted them.

The convicts had denied the theft charges, arguing that they had merely collected left-overs from the college kitchen.
Prosecuting, Mr Fidelis Nyamukondiwa said on September 18, an alert security guard on duty saw the duo carrying bowels from the college kitchen to their waiting vehicle.

The security guard asked the pair what was inside and they told him there were some left-overs, but refused to show him after he demanded to see the contents.

The security guard alerted fellow security officers at the main gate who asked to search the car.
Cooked meat weighing 10kg valued at $28 was recovered and used as exhibit in court.
