Sports Association Zonal Games held at Nyadire Teachers College last week.
The college amassed 53 medals – 27 gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze – in both the men’s and women’s events.
The games featured five teachers’ colleges, namely Belvedere, Seke, Morgan Zintec, Nyadire and Madziva.
Belvedere won gold medals in athletics, basketball, volleyball, cricket, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis and the women darts team.
The zonal games are used as a build-up to the national finals that will be held at Hillside Teachers College later this year.
Seke finished second after a good performance in some sporting disciplines with the host Nyadire coming in third place.
Morgan Zintec, who scooped gold in soccer, came fourth while Madziva were fifth. Morgan Zintec sports director, Person Mangwende, said the games offered them a good platform to build a strong team that will represent the province at the national level.
“We are glad that we managed to provide the biggest pool of players for the national finals and we are not looking back as we are practising hard.
“Our aim is to do away with the idea that hosting is winning. We had prepared much for the event and the gym helped the athletes very much.”
