Satuku clocked 44.06 minutes to clinch the title while Petros Kanyai of Fountain club came second in 50.20 min.
Long distance runner Jonathan Chinyoka of the Zimbabwe Prison Service won the men’s 5 000m after crossing the line in 15.16 min.
Chinyoka won the race ahead of Morelife Gomwe of Ashanti who came in 16.05min and third-placed Farai Mazarura of Tafara 2 High who stopped the clocks 16.29min.
Chinyoka, who is preparing for the Two Oceans Ultra marathon to be held in South Africa on April 23, was satisfied with his performance. “I am training for the Two Oceans marathon to be held next month.
“I am using the track events to prepare because this is an international event and it’s a tough competition but with the way I ran I think I will do well. Last year I was in the top 10,” said Chinyoka. Gerald Munetsi of Ashanti was the top athlete in the senior men’s 1 500m as he won in 4.13.20 minutes while Brian Muduni was second in 4.57.96min.
In the women’s category the title went to independent runner Constance Nyabango who clocked 4.48.48min and was the only female athlete to compete in the event.
UZ director for sports and recreation, Life Chemhere, was satisfied with the level of competition.
This year’s event saw the coming in of Doves Funeral Assurance as the sponsor of the competition.
