SWEET Valley Early Childhood Development (ECD) school owner, Mrs Angelinah Mlotshwa, hosted a vibrant colouring competition for ECD schools in Shurugwi last week.
The event saw young pupils from various pre-schools walking away with prizes aimed at enhancing their education.

Mrs Mlotshwa, who is passionate about children’s development, said the competition was designed to introduce kids to Education 5.0, a heritage-based approach, through art. The competition tasked the children with painting images representing the national heritage, including the national flag, trees, mountains and dams, among other natural features.
“We aim to teach kids about our national heritage at a very young age so that it grows with them. Early childhood education plays a key role in the development of a child’s identity, and through initiatives like this, we can instill a sense of pride in our culture,” said Mrs Mlotshwa.

She added that art allows children to express their stories in various ways, with painting being a powerful tool for storytelling.
The competition ensured every school left with a prize, with the top rewards being whiteboards, educational books, pens, T-shirts and colouring materials. Mrs Mlotshwa expressed her desire to expand the initiative, seeking more funds to support ECD schools in the mining town.
“This year’s event marks the beginning of bigger and better projects. Our aim is to promote early childhood education and provide the necessary tools to inspire learning,” she said.
