Coltart tasked the Sport and Recreation Commission to come up with possible names for the new board and had earlier on indicated that he was going to announce the new board before the end of this week.
The Minister, however, said yesterday he had been held back by the ZBC who are still to submit their names.
ZBC represents different boxing stables in the country and they held a meeting over the weekend to come up with some recommendations and names of people they would want to run the affairs of the sport.
Coltart said he has already received a shortlist of eight people from the Sports Commission but he would also need to consider the submission that will be made by the ZBC.
The minister dissolved the previous board in November. That board led by Richard Hondo had been in charge since 1980 but there have been calls for new faces to give a fresh impetus to boxing which has gone to the doldrums over the years.
Coltart said there is need to include all parties that are interested in boxing in the new board hence the need to delay the announcement. However, he could not reveal the new date set for the announcement.
“I have had extensive discussions with the Sport and Recreation Commission and I have the shortlist I am going to announce but the Zimbabwe Boxing Committee had a meeting on the weekend so I have to delay the announcement to accommodate their suggestions.
“It is absolutely very important for this to be as inclusive as possible. It is important that parties interested in boxing get involved. I want to announce the board but I feel obliged to take into account their suggestions. I am going to announce as soon as possible,” said Coltart.
According the Sports Commission Act, the minister has to announce a board of at least five people.
ZBC chairman, Bartholomew Dendere claimed that they had they have forwarded their shortlist to the minister’s office although he is yet to receive it.
“We submitted the names to his office through the permanent secretary’s office so maybe he has not yet received them. We have submitted the minutes and the recommended names.
There are five people, we considered those people who have been participating from the early 1980s up to date and the input they have put in the development of the sport. We have managed to bring them in and they are willing to rebuild the sport,” said Dendere.
Dendere said they are going to submit another copy of the minutes and shortlist to the Sports Commission today.
