IT’S make-or-break for Kudakwashe ‘Take Money’ Chiwandire today.
The champion boxer weighed in at 54.44kgs while Mexican Zulina Munoz weighed 55.30kgs.
The two will battle in tonight’s World Boxing Council Interim Super-Bantamweight title fight at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Both fighters were declared medically fit for the bout.
Munoz will be hoping to wrestle the title from Chiwandire, the current champion.
The bout will be supervised by WBC vice-president and African Boxing Union president, Houcine Houichi.
South Africa’s Thabo Spampool, who has more than 172 bouts to his name, will referee the fight.
The three judges are Carlos Flores as well as Ghanaians, Michael Newquay and Lynette Onam.
Chiwandire’s coach, Clyde Musonda, said he is confident Take Money will successfully defend her world title.
“The weigh in has gone well. All boxers are within the required range.
“They are medically fit and the fight is on,” he said.
Musonda is not bothered by Munoz’s profile.
She has won 40 times by knockout in her 70 fights.
“Munoz didn’t fight with Kuda in her professional fights.
“This means it’s a new fight and we don’t consider her records.
“So, the record Munoz has was without fighting Kuda.”
He added:
“We did it in Zambia where Catherine Phiri had more fights compared to Kuda.
“Of course, she is an experienced boxer and reaching the twilight of her career, while Kuda is only starting hers.
“This is a WBC title fight, and we won’t take chances.
“Munoz has the experience, but I don’t see this fight getting to 10 rounds.
“Obviously, it will go in favour of Kuda,” Musonda said.
