Ribs will be cracking in Masvingo this weekend as comedians host two shows dubbed “The Masvingo Invasion” at Charles Austin Centre. The stand-up comedy fiesta will see Harare’s Simuka Comedy Club joining forces with Umahlekisa Comedy Club of Bulawayo where gurus like Clive “Yeye” Chigubhu, Doc Vikela, Nthando van Moyo and Gift the Cracker will dish out their best.
Vikela said the Ancient City should brace for rib-cracking fits of laughter.
“We realised that we have not been fair to comedy fanatics who are outside Harare and Bulawayo for a long time. That is why we have chosen to embark on this informal tour,
to cater for enthusiasts in Masvingo,” he said.
Also gracing the event will be Gift, a brilliant impersonator and humourist as well as Clive, a social commentator.
Bulawayo-based Ntando, who is known for her satire, and Doc Vikela, widely considered one of Zimbabwe’s best comedians, will spice up the event.
Their next stop in April is Mutare and they hope to cover all provinces by year-end.
Comedy is growing in Zimbabwe and a live recording of a stand-up show, “Zim Comedy Live”, was done at Book Cafe in Harare last weekend with Joe Njagu directing.
Simuka Comedy is a collaboration of popular and emerging comedians with a drive to improve comedy.
The club was founded in June 2011 by Simba the Comic King and Doc Vikela.
It has hosted some of Zimbabwe’s best comedians like Michael Kudakwashe and Carl Joshua Ncube.
