Comesa secretary-general to headline ZNCC congress

Dr Ngwenya will be one of the guest speakers and is expected to share his experience on regional trade blocks and the Tripartite Trade Free Area.

The congress will be held under the theme “The roadmap to Zimbabwe’s desired future. Defining the possibilities that deliver value”.

ZNCC president Mr Oswell Binha told New Ziana that Dr Ngwenya would share his business acumen, both in the country and in the region.

“Dr Ngwenya is a Zimbabwean and is able to give us a perspective on regional integration he has from both his Zimbabwean and Sadc experience. So we hope to learn a lot from him as a chamber.”

Mr Binha said ZNCC was playing a pivotal role in promoting regional co-operation.

“ZNCC is the focal point on regional integration in Sadc, Comesa and TFTA. In the Comesa Business Council we are the secretary-general, we are also the interim chair of the Sadc regional business apex body,” he said.

“We now expect the secretary-general to come in and unpack prospects for the country, where we have advantages and where we have disadvantages in Comesa.”

He said ZNCC was also the president of Sadc Chambers of Commerce. Mr Binha said local and international renowned business people were expected to grace the congress.

“Regional and international business chambers are expected to attend the congress as we are also taking it as an opportunity to deliberate on the position of the private sector after elections.

“We have often blamed political uncertainty, now we want to see how best we can move forward as private sector to trigger double-digit growth,” he said. – New Ziana.
