RISING contemporary musician, Commander Lee has released a nine-track third album titled “Serevende”. Commander Lee, real name Obey Shamu has largely been in the shadow of contemporary music linchpin Jah Prayzah for the past three years as fans took him for the Eriza-singer copycat since he tried to imitate the Mrewa-born artist’s style. But this time around, the 32-year-old Squad of Peace front man has come up with his own beat which sounds different from any other singer.
The album, which hit the streets last week, carries nine songs which mainly focus on socio-conomic issues as well as love. The title track “Serevende” is a dedication to the members of the army whom Shamu believes should be credited for the stellar work they do during both peace and war times.
“I did the song ‘Serevende’ which is the title track to the nine-track album as a dedication to members of the army who go out of their way to try and offer a helping hand to the country’s citizens in every difficulty situation the people encounter.
“Remember what they did in Tokwe-Mukosi, Muzarabani and Mt Darwin when natural disasters had befallen the people in those areas. So I did this song as a sign of respect to their dedication to duty,” he said.
It is the song “Zuva Rapisa” which could steal the hearts of many. In the song, Shamu laments about a person who is in the thick of poverty despite having talent which they could use to eke a living in this world. He pleads with the Almighty to come to that person’s rescue.
He also did collaboration with a musician from the Philippines, Elmer Ambel in the song “Chinyakare” that urges parents to always urge their children against indulging in pre-marital sex.
Other songs on the album which could prove to be hits include “Chihwerure”, “Marambadoro” and “Zirume Rinoruta”.
“Tariro”, “Kutonga Kwashe” and “Mwendamberi” complete the album.
